Putin Wants Cheaper Sausages

There was a great story going around the news sites last week about the Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and supermarket sausages!

Apparently, Mr Putin halted a meeting with senior Russian retailers to take them to a supermarket to show them how expensive sausages were. Mr Putin was angered to see some sausages priced at 240 roubles when other were just 49 roubles. Despite being told the more expensive bangers were premium meat Mr Putin suggested that they were still too expensive.

Critics suggest Mr Putin was just pulling a publicity stunt to demonstrate that he is aware that inflation (running at about 14%) and that it’s not the Governments fault – rather it’s greedy retailers charging too much.

Either way, it’s hard to envisage our very own Mr Brown complaining about the price of his premium chipolatas.
