Sausages More Expensive
About a month ago there were reports in The Telepgraph and The Grocer about the rising price of sausages. Due to declining EU and British pig herds and greater demand from China for European pork the cost of pork sausages has risen sharply. The UK imports about 50% of its pork products.
The average price of a six-pack of sausages in supermarkets was £2.09 in April 2009 – an increase of 50% on last year. Own brand sausages have increased in price by over 35%.
According to the British Sausage Appreciation Society (official site) more and more of us are eating sausages – many of us eating them as a main-meal item.
